Lectovo Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
Lectovo ("we," "us," "our") is an app that helps students record classes, get automatic transcripts, and study from them. This page explains what information Lectovo collects, how it's used, and your choices. Lectovo is currently in closed beta testing.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, display name, and profile photo (if you sign in with Google or Apple), via Firebase Authentication.
- Content you create: audio recordings of your classes, the resulting transcripts, AI-generated notes/quizzes/exam guides, confusion-moment bookmarks, detected deadlines, uploaded slide documents (PDF/DOCX/PPTX), and class schedules you set up.
- Challenge Room data: if you start or join a Classmate Challenge, the question, your answer, and your written reasoning are visible to the other participants you explicitly invite.
- Device permissions: microphone access (to record), calendar access (only if you choose to sync a class schedule), and notification access (for local class reminders). Calendar events and reminders are created directly on your device.
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
How we use your information
- To record and store your class audio and transcribe it into text.
- To generate AI study aids from your transcripts - key-point notes, practice quizzes, exam guides, confusion-moment explanations, and detected assignment deadlines.
- To sync class schedules and reminders to your device's own calendar and notification system.
- To operate the Classmate Challenge Room feature, which shares your answer/reasoning with classmates you invite.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the app, including responding to feedback or bug reports you submit.
Third-party services we use
- OpenAI - your recording audio is sent to OpenAI's Whisper API to produce a transcript, and transcript text is sent to OpenAI's models to generate notes, quizzes, and deadline detection. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Firebase / Google Cloud - used for authentication, data storage (Firestore), file storage, and server-side processing. See Firebase's privacy and security policy.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Data retention and deletion
Deleting a folder or recording moves it to Trash, where it's permanently erased after 30 days (or immediately if you choose to delete it permanently). You can delete your entire account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account, which permanently removes your folders, recordings, transcripts, audio files, and schedules.
Children's privacy
Lectovo is intended for college and university students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security
Your data is protected by Firebase security rules that restrict access to your own account. Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).
Your choices
You can edit or delete your content, and delete your account entirely, at any time from within the app. If you have questions about your data, contact us at the email below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes during testing. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
